1. Find your wireless Network Adapter Address.

  1. Click the Apple icon at the upper left hand corner of the screen and select System Preferences.
  2. In the System Preferences window, click on the Network icon.
  3. Select the "Airport" tab
  4. Write down the address listed next to "AirPort ID." This is your Network Adapter Address. In the example below, the address is 00:19:e3:dc:a8:a9.

2. Modify/create your GALEN Account.

You must have a UCSF student, faculty, or staff GALEN Account for wireless access. Please modify your GALEN account to include your Network Adapter Address.

Your wireless access will be effective 20 minutes after registration. If you don't have a GALEN Account, create one now, then modify your account.

YOU'RE DONE!!!  If you are having difficulty getting to this step, then please check out the troubleshoot guide.  You can also call the Library Technical Helpdesk at: (415) 476-4309 to speak with a Consultant.

3. Configure/reconfigure your laptop settings.

WARNING: UCSF faculty and staff -- if your laptop is manually configured  for use in another network such as your office, the steps below may erase that configuration. Consult your department Computer Support Coordinator for support.

This step is only necessary if you have manually configured network settings. To use wireless, you may need to configure your laptop's settings to obtain an IP address automatically and set the appropriate authentication and encryption for the UCSF wireless network.

1. Click on the Apple icon in the top left hand corner of your desktop and select System Preferences.
2. In the section Internet & Network, click on Network.
3. The two dropdowns on the top should be:
                Location: Automatic
                Show: AirPort

4. Under the TCP/IP tab:
                Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
