Proposed Revision of UC Faculty Copyright Policy to Grant Ownership to Regents

On April 17th, the UC Academic Council committed to sending to the Academic Assembly five white papers of their Special Committee on Scholarly Communication (SCSC), along with a resolution recommending that the UC President appoint a working group to review and refine the proposed UC Faculty Scholarly Work Copyright Rights Policy. The policy was developed in order to facilitate scholarly communication and maximize the impact of the scholarship of UC faculty.
According to the proposed policy, "UC faculty shall routinely grant to the Regents of the University of California a limited, irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive license to place in a non-commercial open-access online repository the faculty member's scholarly work published in a scholarly journal or conference proceedings.... Such a license would preserve copyright ownership in the faculty-author, thereby enabling him or her to control subsequent uses of the work." [back to top] |
