Yes, books checked out from the Library on Parnassus can be returned to the Library at the Community Center. Library staff will check in the book at the Community Center and then send it to the Library on Parnassus. Returns are no longer accepted at Genentech Hall.

Yes, personnel at Mission Bay may use Book Delivery service to have a book or bound journal sent from the Library on Parnassus to the Library at the Community Center. Books and journals are no longer delivered to Genentech Hall.

Personnel at Mission Bay can have their interlibrary loan requests sent to the Library at the Community Center for pick up.

When an Interlibrary Loan book request arrives at the Library on Parnassus, the requestor receives an email indicating that the book has arrived. Respond to this email and inform the Library that you would like the book sent to the Community Center. Library staff at the Community Center will notify you once the book has arrived.

Please note that interlibrary items are no longer delivered to Genentech Hall.

Yes, Mission Bay personnel may pay Library fines at the Library at the Community Center. Note that the Library at the Community Center can only accept cash to pay fines.

Yes, the Library at the Community Center can accommodate reserve materials. When considering materials for reserve, the Library encourages faculty to place the materials on electronic reserve, which makes the material more easily accessible to students. Yes, you can print from computers in the Library in the same way that you print from computers in the Library on Parnassus, using your GALEN Account. You may add money to your GALEN Account at the Circulation Desk in the Library at the Community Center. Note that the Library at the Community Center can accept only cash or a departmental recharge to add money to your GALEN Accounts. Printing is no longer available in the Genentech Hall study space.

Yes, the Library at the Community Center has a copier, as well as a copy card vending machine to buy new copy cards or add money to your existing copy card.

Copying is no longer available in the Genentech Hall study space. Due to low usage and the high cost of purchasing an additional copier, the Library will be able to provide only one copier on the Mission Bay campus at the present usage.

In addition to floppy and Zip disks, USB flash drives can be used on the computers in the Computer Lab & Classroom. Also, the My Documents folder on the computer desktop is read/write enabled for temporary storage of files on these computers.

UCSF students and personnel can connect to the Internet via wireless in the Library at the Community Center (Room CC-150) and Genentech Hall study space (Room GH-227). [more information]

Yes, the Library at the Community Center has laptops that can be borrowed by UCSF faculty, staff, and students for use in the Library.

The Library at the Community Center features a Computer Lab & Classroom with 16 Macintosh computers and an instructor's workstation. When it is not being used as a classroom, the lab is open for general computing to UCSF students, faculty, and staff.

The Library offers a selection of information retrieval and management classes for the Mission Bay community. See the class schedule for details on classes offered at the MBCC location.

There will not be a reference librarian located at the Library in the Community Center when it first opens. Reference assistance will be available during regular reference hours (1-3 pm, Monday to Friday) via the telephone (476-2337). Faculty, staff, and students at Mission Bay can also make an appointment with a Librarian for more complex reference questions and research.

There is one small conference room in the Genentech Hall study space that can be booked for two-hour meetings or study sessions. Email Library staff or call (415) 514-4060 to reserve the room up to two weeks in advance.

Videoconferencing is available in the Genentech Hall conference room, 227A. The Library provides Polycom videoconferencing that supports H.323, which will allow you to videoconference with any other site that is H.323 compliant. You should be familiar with the Polycom videoconferencing interface, as only limited technical support is available. You will also need to know the IP address of the computer in the study space (which is posted on the CPU) and the computer you wish to communicate with.
