Rules of Use
Loaner Laptops are for use by UCSF personnel and students with current Library Borrower Accounts only.
Laptops are for Library use only. You may not leave the Library with the laptop.
Laptop use is not allowed on the 4th floor of the Parnassus Library, except in Group Study Rooms.
You are responsible for making sure the laptop is not damaged, lost, or stolen while it is checked out to you. See the damage and fee chart for details. UCSF Loaner Laptops found unattended may be confiscated by Library staff. You must immediately notify a Library staff member if a loaner laptop is stolen while left unattended, so the Library can call proper authorities immediately.
4-hour limit. An A/C power adapter is included with each laptop and should be used at all times. It is not guaranteed that battery power alone will be sufficient during regular use. It is highly recommended that you save your files or data often.
Laptops may be renewed for an additional 4 hours if no other users are waiting. Note that renewals cease 2 hours prior to the scheduled Library closing time. You are not required to bring the laptop to the Circulation Desk to renew; however, it is necessary that you bring your campus-wide ID and the date due slip so that a Circulation staff member may update the due time. Please note that security of laptop is your responsibility while it is left unattended.
Laptops may not be borrowed overnight. Laptop borrowing ceases 2 hours prior to the scheduled Library closing time. All laptops are due one hour prior to the scheduled Library closing time.
Advanced reservations are not available for laptops. Laptops are loaned on a first come, first served basis. When all laptops are in use, a hold may be placed for the next available laptop. Users are not allowed to borrow more than one laptop at a time.
If you are late in returning a laptop, your ability to borrow any Library material is blocked immediately, fees may be assessed and loss of laptop borrowing privileges may result. Continued late returns may be subject to loss of laptop use privilege.
The hard drive is rebuilt regularly. Anything you save to the hard drive will be deleted upon return to the Circulation Desk -- no exceptions. Save your data often to a diskette or other removable media.
Users are responsible for any violations of the UCSF Computer & Network Use Policy and all other applicable UC policies, State or Federal laws or contractual agreements.
Laptop use is a privilege that can be revoked if the service is abused.
For other questions please use this email form to contact the Circulation Desk.
