UCSF Items at NRLF

Each year the UCSF Library moves approximately 5,000 volumes to the UC Northern Regional Library Facility (NRLF), a climate-controlled, archival quality facility. This transfer makes space for the new books and bound journals that are added to the Library's collection every year. It will also help the Library accommodate the loss of shelving on the 2nd floor in the coming years.

The Library selects low-use material for NRLF transfer that we anticipate will have the least impact on the research needs of our community.

Items at NRLF can be retrieved within 4 working days

2007-08 Transfers
For 2007-08 we are focusing on sending:
  • Books published before 1900. We began sending these books in 2005-06. Materials from Archives & Special Collections will not be affected. Books and journals from this time period that we have identified as key titles will be kept in the Library.
  •
  • Print journals that the Library cancelled when online access became available. Only those journals that are available online in their entirety to the UC libraries and are from publishers with reliable online archival access will be transferred to NRLF.
The Library accepted comments on this list until September 28, 2007. Please send additional feedback to the Collections Management unit. If a journal set has been sent to NRLF and it is needed back in the Library temporarily this can usually be arranged.
