Library Checklist for New Students and Personnel

Campus Identification Number

Students

Your SAA UserID and PIN are codes that uniquely identify you on campus. Issued by the Office of Admissions and Registrar (OAR), they are used to log on to OAR Online Services and your GALEN Account (see below).

Other UCSF Personnel

Your Employee ID number is a unique 9-digit number. You can find your Employee ID number on your pay statement or by contacting your department's payroll unit.

Campus-Wide Photo ID Card (CWID)

The CWID is also your Library card. Get this ID from the UCSF Police Department.

Remote Access to Library Resources and Databases

Remote access to full-text online journals, the Library Catalog, the California Digital Library (CDL), and other GALEN resources is available 24 hours per day from home or office. Use your SAA User ID number or Employee ID number to establish access via VPN.

Library Borrower Account

Activate your Borrower Account with your CWID at the circulation desk, located near each library's main entrance.

In addition to checking out materials, the account allows you to use Interlibrary Borrowing to request journal articles and books that are not owned by the UCSF Library and Document Express, a fee-based document delivery service for journal articles owned by UCSF.

GALEN Account

GALEN Accounts are used for logging into and printing at Library computers. GALEN Accounts are created automatically for new students in the Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Physical Therapy.

Students: Log on to your GALEN Account with your SAA UserID and PIN number.

Other UC Personnel: You must create a GALEN Account using your Employee ID number.

Computing Access

The Library has several computing spaces available to UCSF personnel.

Use your UCSF ID to unlock the computer lab doors when they are locked. Hold your ID card in front of the card reader adjacent to the entry. If you have been issued a new card because your UCSF ID was lost or stolen, only the new card will work with the card readers.

Please contact the UCSF Police for any ID card access related issues at 415-476-2088 or visit UC Police in Millberry Union West, Room G18.

Online Course Content

Use your GALEN Account to log into the online course management systems at UCSF.

Photocopying

Copiers are located throughout the Parnassus Campus Library and the Mission Bay FAMRI Library. Present your CWID to purchase discounted copy cards.
